Chargers' Merriman fined for hit below knee

Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman had surgery to repair two torn ligaments in his left knee on Monday, and was fined $7,500 by the NFL for a hit on Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme in his only game this season.
