Cheeks Says Brand Will Enhance Sixers' Style of Play

In the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, Phil Jasner writes "for Maurice Cheeks, opportunity knocked when he noticed a crawl line across the bottom of the TV screen: Elton Brand had opted out of his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers. Cheeks didn't know it immediately, but a crawl line suddenly transformed into a race to the finish. ‘We had talked, but we didn't have any idea at that time that we would get [Brand],' Cheeks said. 'Once the possibility arose of him being a member of our team, it was just a feeling of elation. We were hampered with ways of trying to get him, and then we got him.' Cheeks said he didn't have "any concerns" about Brand coming back from surgery to repair an Achilles' tendon."
