Report: Mavs, Carlisle Getting Closer to Coaching Deal

In the DALLAS MORNING NEWS, Eddie Sefko writes "the Mavericks and Rick Carlisle are inching closer to an agreement that would make him the team's new coach. While no deal is done, Carlisle said Tuesday that both sides continue to discuss the options about him becoming the ninth coach in franchise history. 'My agent has returned from Europe, and we're still talking,' Carlisle said. 'We're moving in a good direction. Things are moving along. 'A week has passed since Avery Johnson was fired, and Carlisle is the only candidate known to have interviewed with Dallas. The Mavericks have been weighing their options about bringing in other candidates, but if negotiations can yield a contract palatable to both sides, it seems clear Carlisle is the top choice on a very short list.”
