An extravaganza in every other city, NBA All-Star Weekend comes to the Gulf Coast as part of a recovery effort. The league is putting its weight behind community service programs and encouraging attention to non-basketball issues in the epicenter of a region rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina. Local officials estimate that 50,000 to 70,000 people – most of whom won't attend Sunday's All-Star Game – will visit for the festivities and that the economic impact will be worth $80 million to $90 million.
