Elton Brand Assists Home Talent

2007/11/05 00:40:57 @NBA.com: News

In the NEW YORK TIMES, Michael Malone writes, "When Daisy Brand heard that the N.B.A. star Allen Iverson had bought a minor league basketball team in Virginia for his mother, she wondered aloud whether her son Elton should do the same in Westchester. After all, Elton Brand played for Peekskill High School before starring at Duke and for the N.B.A.'s Los Angeles Clippers. So Brand, a 6-foot-8 All-Star forward entering his ninth professional season, bought a team in the American Basketball Association for his mother and installed his brother, Artie McGriff, as the general manager. The team, the Westchester Phantoms, which played in Brooklyn last season as the Comets, makes its debut on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. against the Strong Island Sound at Peekskill High."
