Jeff Washburn of the JOURNAL AND COURIER writes, "As a middle school basketball player in tiny Tolono, Ill., Brian Cardinal hoped to someday earn varsity playing time. On Sept. 29, the former Purdue standout forward will report to the Memphis Grizzlies' training camp, where the 6-foot-8, 245-pound NBA veteran will begin the fourth year of a six-year contract worth $34,596,300."
