Mullin Helps Persuade Nelson

Geoff Lepper of INSIDE BAY AREA writes, "A Warriors official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Friday the only remaining requirement before Nelson signs his revamped contract is a vetting of the document by John O'Connor, Nelson's lawyer. That's expected to take place this weekend, clearing the way for Nelson to sign off on a new deal that raises his base salary from $3.1 million to $5.1 million for each of the next two seasons. Whenever Nelson finally does put pen to paper, it'll end a process that has dragged out since the Warriors' playoff run ended in mid-May. Nelson said the biggest reason the renegotiation logjam between him and the team finally broke this week was the intervention of Chris Mullin, Golden State's executive vice president. Mullin persuaded his old coach to accept the team's offer even though it contained less-guaranteed money than his original contract, since the final season is now a team option."
