Gardner writes "it was time well spent for the United States basketball team, which finished its summer obligations with a perfect 10-0 record and a gold medal in the FIBA Americas tournament. Changes will be made, however. Miami Heat guard and former Marquette star Dwyane Wade, who was in Las Vegas to support his teammates, missed the competition while recovering from shoulder surgery. Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh sat out with a foot injury, and New Orleans point guard Chris Paul, who played in 2006, also was out with an injury."
